I have 5 fun facts to share with you on this Friday the 13th! (I am not sure how that ever became a thing.) A few of my facts are a little random this week but I still have some real estate data for you at the end along with my weekly quote to ponder. Have a great weekend!

Fun Fact 1:
The Bureau of Land Management, the United States Forest Service, the National Park Service, the US Fish and Wildlife Service and the Department of Defense own a large concentration in western states west of the 100th meridian: (% is federal land) MT (29.9%), WA (30.3%), CO (36%), NM (41%), WY (42%), CA (45%), AZ (48%), ID (50.2%), UT (57.4%), and NV (84.5%). Midwestern, Southeastern, Mid Atlantic and New England states are predominantly privately owned. (The report linked below is worth a read if you are interested.)

Fun Fact 2:
There have been a total of 5,577 planets discovered outside the Solar System by various methods: transit, radial velocity, microlensing, or other.

Fun Fact 3:
The first ballots of the 2024 election are already going out. North Carolina began mailing absentee ballots this week. Pennsylvania will begin in-person early voting soon as well. (Commentary: what happened to “election DAY”?)

Fun Fact 4:
Active listings (supply) in August were down 0.7% when compared to July but jumped by nearly 30% when compared to last year at this time. August saw a total of 2,847 active listings.

Fun Fact 5:
August listings saw 34 days on the MLS, on average. This was an increase of 17.2% when compared to July and an increase of nearly 55% when compared to last year at this time. Last year in August, listings saw 22 days on market, on average.
