Garden of the Gods. The classic ski trip stop (located just West of Colorado Springs) for all of us Texans traveling up towards Denver and into the mountains was always a staple either on the way to Denver or on the way back home. However, living in Denver it is easy to forget this fun outdoor adventure down south since there is so much to do here in the Metro and nearby. This past weekend, my wife and I thought about getting out of town and introducing our kids to Garden of the Gods. At first we thought it would take way too long to get there and that the kids might not dig it. They are 8, 6 and 3. However, it took us less than an hour and a half to get there, and our kids LOVED it! They climbed on everything. My wife and I had a great time too. We took pictures, got exercise and were able to climb and have fun with our kids. We also stopped in the visitor center which has some cool info and great views.
We highly recommend it if you want an easy 1/2 day trip that could easily turn into a full day if you want. (We left at 12:30 and were back home downtown by 5:30pm and we didn’t rush at all.) Parking can be a little tricky on a busy day, but you can do the drive loop and come back around again to find an empty spot from the various parking lots.
