The Benchmark for the Most Green Home

For two decades, Japan has been leading the way in “Shawood” which is a form of pre-fabricating housing parts and then assembling them in the field.  This technique, combined with energy efficient design and selections was unveiled a few weeks ago at the annual International Home Builders Show in Las Vegas.  According to the article, the home is “expected to achieve LEED Emerald Status, the National Green Building Standard’s highest efficiency rating.”

Obviously this is unobtainable to the non luxury home buyer, however there are some very cool features that might be possible on a smaller scale and there are industry changing processes and materials being used in the construction that are worth a look.
